Mane, Tail, and Headache!
I still need to find a name for this horse.
However, there’s time for that. Keep stitching.
The mane and tail didn’t take too long, and the horse is looking bright and neat. I think the image as a whole is working so far (thank goodness, it’s an awfully time-consuming technique to end up dissatisfied with!), so I’m happy to keep going.
I might be able to get back to the tussocks soon, but in the meantime, close ups.
I chose to do a short standing mane for this horse, rather than the flowing locks for William’s horse, but gave it a little quiff of a forelock as well.
I was trying to create the effect of flying strands crossing over in the tail, but instead I’ve got a kink in it. I might have to do something different there, but until I’ve worked out what, I shall leave well alone!
I have another problem.

I’m not happy with the colours on her dress, there’s something a bit “off”, not the atmosphere I’m looking for. So yes, I’m going to have to undo the dress.
<fx: growls>
Hmm, double check that you’re not being tricked by the vivid lemon yellow of the background pattern markings before you change the dress.
And the little tail-kink looks like the wind has blown it a bit. It has character and is very natural.
Cute quiff and I too like the tail
When I see Aethelflead’s silvery blue horse, I think of the moon. Is she a mare and could she be a Luna? The tail and her spiky mane add a lot of character.
Now, I am not good at colours, so I must admit I can not see a lot of difference in the three pictures you have, although the middle seems to have mostly warm tones and the selection on the right cooler. Against the blue ‘Luna’, would cooler shades look harmonious and and the warmer tones stand out?
I agree that the vivid colour of the yellow background pattern is overpowering the overall effect.
I too was wondering if the problem lies with the yellow background pattern.
The sheen of the thread has actually given the horse’s coat a very subtle dapple anyway, which is really effective. Here’s a curve ball – does the dress need to be red…? I was wondering indigo blue.
