{"id":4214,"date":"2011-09-23T09:07:25","date_gmt":"2011-09-23T08:07:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/?p=4214"},"modified":"2014-02-11T15:37:52","modified_gmt":"2014-02-11T15:37:52","slug":"one-collared-elephant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/2011\/09\/23\/one-collared-elephant\/","title":{"rendered":"One Collared Elephant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You can tell that the Elephant&#8217;s inspiration was the right one &#8211; suddenly he&#8217;s taken off!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4215\" style=\"width: 376px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/ElephantCollared.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4215\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4215 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/ElephantCollared-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"The Elephant Collared\" width=\"366\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4215\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Elephant Collared<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;m using one set of variegated silk thread (shading from orange to brown) for the harness and headcloth and saddlecloth, and another (shading from cream to brown) for any small bits of the Elephant that show through all his finery.\u00a0 I shall have to redraw his head and headcloth &#8211; the transfer has rubbed off &#8211; but I&#8217;m pretty pleased with progress.<\/p>\n<p>The collar is worked in six rows of <a title=\"Braid Stitch on Stitch School\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/2011\/09\/20\/quaker-tapestry-kit-cooperation-is-better-than-conflict\/\" target=\"_blank\">braid stitch<\/a>, which is a stitch that always looks better in a round yarn like this silk perl\u00e9. The roundels hanging from the collar are two rows of <a title=\"Buttonhole Stitch on the Embroiderer's Guild\" href=\"http:\/\/www.embroiderersguild.com\/stitch\/stitches\/buttonhole.html\" target=\"_blank\">buttonhole stitch<\/a>, and the roundels on the ear-covering are <a title=\"Spiral Trellis Stitch on Just String blog\" href=\"http:\/\/juststring.blogspot.com\/2008\/06\/spiral-trellis-stitch.html\" target=\"_blank\">spiral trellis stitch<\/a> &#8211; at the moment. I&#8217;m not quite sure that they are right. I first used Spiral Trellis on the <a title=\"Jacobean Work Panel\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/2010\/09\/28\/jacobean-work-panel\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jacobean Work Panel<\/a>, and really enjoyed stitching it, but I think these look too fussy. One big one might be better, and it would allow the colour change in the thread to show a little more.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m glad that I have worked out something to do next, as his anklets are giving me trouble.They are smooth and domed in the original model, but I think satin stitch might look a little ordinary.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve used small satin stitches to outline the border of the saddlecloth, but only because I wanted something quiet to contain the excitement I intend to put inside it &#8211; I&#8217;m planning to use one of the complicated interlacings from the <a title=\"Posts tagged &quot;Tudor and Stuart Goldwork Masterclass&quot;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/tag\/tudor-and-stuart-goldwork-masterclass\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tudor and Stuart Goldwork Masterclass<\/a> for the saddlecloth, but extended to form an all-over pattern.<\/p>\n<p>Watch this space&#8230;!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You can tell that the Elephant&#8217;s inspiration was the right one &#8211; suddenly he&#8217;s taken off!
