The weather has been cold and overcast,\u00a0 making my best stitching spot for natural light a chilly and uninviting place. Artificial light produces a confusing glimmer on metal threads, so unless it is a particularly easy stitch, I tend not to use metal threads in the evening.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been more or less keeping up with my practice stitching, however, and this month&#8217;s stitches are Cable Chain Stitch, and Knot Stitch (also known as Braid Stitch). I enjoyed these very much, as I already know them both, and it was good to be able to add them to the practice cloth and remind myself of my repertoire.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3468\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/CableChainStitch.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3468\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3468\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/CableChainStitch-300x116.jpg\" alt=\"Cable Chain Stitch\" width=\"300\" height=\"116\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/CableChainStitch-300x116.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/CableChainStitch.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3468\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cable Chain Stitch<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Cable chain is my absolute favourite of the chain stitches, and pops up in all sorts of projects. I used it in the <a title=\"Post about the Jacobean Firescreen\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/2010\/02\/12\/where-oh-where-did-my-header-come-from\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jacobean Firescreen<\/a> that I&#8217;ve used as my header picture, and the <a title=\"Post on the Jacobean Work Panel\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/2010\/09\/28\/jacobean-work-panel\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jacobean Work panel<\/a> that I&#8217;ve yet to find a use for, and on the dorsal fin of the <a title=\"Post on the Experimental Seahorse.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/2011\/03\/25\/an-experimental-seahorse\/\" target=\"_blank\">Experimental Seahorse<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve even used it on the Map of Amarna, in the <a title=\"Post about the Compass Rose on the Map of Amarna\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/2011\/01\/04\/some-work-on-the-map-of-amarna\/\" target=\"_blank\">Compass Rose<\/a>. I think that it looks its best using a fairly heavy round thread, so on my practice cloth the gold is somewhat out of scale with the fabric<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3469\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/BraidOrKnotStitch.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3469\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3469\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/BraidOrKnotStitch-300x118.jpg\" alt=\"Braid Or Knot Stitch\" width=\"300\" height=\"118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/BraidOrKnotStitch-300x118.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/BraidOrKnotStitch.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3469\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Braid Or Knot Stitch<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Braid or Knot Stitch (not the terrifying Plaited Braid Stitch that I haven&#8217;t got to grips with yet!) is another favourite. I used it to create the <a title=\"Persian Fantasy post including the Prince's Bow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/2010\/02\/23\/stitching-the-persian-fantasy-one\/\" target=\"_blank\">Prince&#8217;s bow<\/a> in the first of the <a title=\"Posts tagged Persian Fantasy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/tag\/persian-fantasy\/\" target=\"_blank\">Persian Fantasy Panels<\/a>. I also used it for the ice cream cone part of the logo on the <a title=\"Post about the logo on the Frolicking Teddies Cot Blanket\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.virtuosewadventures.co.uk\/wordpress\/2011\/05\/20\/frolicking-teddies-part-two\/\" target=\"_blank\">Frolicking Teddies Cot Blanket<\/a>.
